چکیده

Transitional waters are fragile ecosystems with high ecological values, representing the breeding and resting sites for rare threatened species. They warrant particular attention in regards to protection, as they experience numerous anthropogenic threats. The present review aims analyze recent literature on Aphanius fasciatus, currently considered one of most strictly estuarine-dependent fish species, thus affected by degradation lagoon habitats, discuss its suitability a sentinel species protection quality transitional water environments. analysis discussion highlight potential applicability molecular, cellular, physiological responses this diagnostic tools detecting subtle effects induced environmental pollution biota Moreover, is suggested wider framework One Health perspective, which considers human animal health state be highly interconnected, sharing common aspects. To date, omics technologies show great reacquiring novel knowledge organisms changes alterations status. Therefore, considering relevant organism many efforts required near future improve quantity that refer A. fasciatus.

Short communication:Potential ectoparasites of the endemic Mediterranean banded killifish (Aphanius fasciatus, Valenciennes, 1821) of the northern Sahara (Algeria)

The Aphanius fasciatus is an endemic fish species of the coastal Mediterranean region; and recently discovered in the northern Algerian Sahara. The aim of this study is to evaluate the infestation by ectoparasites on A. fasciatus in the new arid habitats where it was newly recorded. For this purpose, skin and gills of 95 fish caught in the Still Wadi (Still river), between September 2012 and Ju...

The role of habitat choice in micro‐evolutionary dynamics: An experimental study on the Mediterranean killifish Aphanius fasciatus (Cyprinodontidae)

Habitat choice is defined as a nonrandom distribution of genotypes in different microhabitats. Therefore, it could exert a great impact on the genetic variance of natural populations by promoting genetic divergence, local adaptation, and may even lead to sympatric speciation. Despite this potential role in micro- and macro-evolutionary processes, there is little empirical evidence that the vari...

Chromosomal location polymorphism of major rDNA sites in two Mediterranean populations of the killifish Aphanius fasciatus (Pisces: Cyprinodontidae).

The chromosomes of the Mediterranean killifish, Aphanius fasciatus from two populations, the Lagoon of Venice (LV, 15 specimens) and the Lagoon "Stagnone di Marsala" (Sicily) (SM, 48 specimens), have been investigated using conventional Ag-staining and fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) with 18S rDNA probe. The two methods revealed variation in the number of major rDNA sites ranging from ...
